Gluten Free in Sarasota/St. Armands Circle

Since I’m on a roll with food, I’m going to stick with it.

My first full day in Tampa involved exercise and a little road trip. My friend and I woke up bright and early to go to a Jazzercise class she just started. Aside from the pelvic thrusting that I skipped right over, I enjoyed it. I may have enjoyed breakfast more though.

We headed over to First Watch, which thankfully has a gluten free menu to make things a little easier. If you’re looking for gluten free pancakes and waffles, this isn’t your place. There’s no gluten free toast or anything like that. But if you want a fresh omelette, you’ll be just fine. They’re made in their own pan, so no cross-contamination issues.

I ordered the Tri-Athlete sans English muffin, with eggs instead of egg whites. It wasn’t anything super special, but it was fresh and not greasy or heavy like you find in some places.

After that, we made a stop at the Ellenton Outlets before heading over to Sarasota and St. Armands Circle. We had dinner at Dry Dock Waterfront Grill on Longboat Key, which seemed to be a pretty popular place. They don’t accept reservations unless you have a party of 8 or more. The restaurant was nice. They had outdoor and indoor seating with a view of the water, which is exactly what we were looking for.

They also had a gluten free menu, and I went with the chicken tacos on corn tortillas. They were great!

We paid and headed out pretty quickly so we could catch a great sunset.

We all agreed that ice cream would be a perfect way to finish the night off, so while friends headed to Kilwin’s, I went to see about Ben & Jerry’s. Good call! I walked in and asked about gluten free options. The manager was wonderful! He gave me a list of flavors to choose from and offered me an allergy scoop. I’d never heard of that before, but they basically pull out a brand new container of whatever flavor you ask for so there’s no risk of cross contamination. I went with mint chocolate chip, which I also learned isn’t green because they don’t use any artificial colors or dyes. Very nice.

That wrapped our jam packed day. I’m looking forward to going back in July.
