Fun in the Flower Fields- Carlsbad, California

So, it’s winter. And it’s cold. And stuff is dead. Now feels like a good time for me to reminisce about warmer weather and living stuff, like flowers.

When I travel for work, I always scope out the events happening around the city I’m in and try to cram in as much as possible. While visiting San Diego a few years ago, I saw something about the Carlsbad Flower Fields and realized 1) they weren’t too far and 2) they were actually open while I was in town!

Carlsbad flower fields 1My entire face lit up like a five-year-old on Christmas the second I saw the rows and rows of flowers while sitting at the traffic light that took me towards the fields. There really aren’t words to describe how beautiful this place is.

Carlsbad fields 2There were a lot of visitors, but I never felt like cattle walking through the small spaces to reach the back of the fields. I stopped several times to turn back and just stare in awe. I even had a few nice visitors offer to take my photo.

Carlsbad 4Here are a few other snapshots I took during my visit:

I had a great time here alone, but I think this would be a nice trip for just about any group. It’s not quite as exhausting or expensive as the zoo or amusement parks, and there’s plenty to see. Perfect place to create an awesome Christmas card photo, too!

If you’d like to see the Carlsbad Flower Fields, make sure you check out the website. An event calendar and additional information can be found online here. The 2015 season runs from March 1- May 10, 2015.

Hi Casey. I found your site by searching “baseball” and it brought up That Fenway Feelin’, but it better fulfills my travel interest, so consider me a follower!

This is a very eye-catching post in my Reader, with such a colorful featured image, and what do you know, there are more fabulous photos in the post! I can almost smell the flowers!

My wife and I were in San Diego years ago, for a couple of days only, when I arrived full of carsickness and the weather was somehow pretty lousy. All I remember about my own visit to Los Angeles, prior to meeting my wife, was how every neighborhood seemed to smell different–and not like flowers or anything else pleasant. So I enjoy seeing these more attractive images of the area, and will have to look for the Flower Fields if we return.

Hey! That’s so great to hear. I’m glad you enjoyed reading.

I had my own share of bad experiences in Los Angeles, so I understand that. I have a lot more to post about San Diego, so maybe it will give you a few more ideas for your next trip!
